1. Clue HQ Harrogate
We are at 1 Prospect Crescent, right in the centre and a short walk from the Stray. Four escape rooms, sixty minutes, private to your group, and the best value hour in town for a group of six.
We would say that, of course. Everything below is what our games hosts actually recommend when people ask what else there is to do.
2. Bettys Café Tea Rooms
The Harrogate institution, on Parliament Street since 1919 and still worth the queue. Afternoon tea with the full platter, or a Fat Rascal and a pot of tea if you would rather not commit the afternoon.
3. The Valley Gardens
Seventeen acres of gardens five minutes from the town centre, with a boating lake and a paddling pool in summer. The path out of the western end takes you through the woods towards Harlow Carr.
4. RHS Garden Harlow Carr
One of only a handful of gardens the RHS runs itself: wildflower meadows, a streamside garden and the kitchen gardens, about a mile and a half from the centre. There is a Bettys there too.
5. The Stray
Two hundred acres of common land wrapped around the town, protected by an act of parliament since 1770. Nothing to pay and nothing to book: just the nicest walk between the station and anywhere else.
Before you go
Opening times, prices and menus change, so check with each place before you travel, especially out of season. Our own games are advance booking only, so book your slot first and build the rest of the day around it.
