The best escape rooms in Kingston upon Thames

What is actually in Kingston upon Thames, which room to pick first, what it costs and how to get here. Written by the team who run the games.

The 6 rooms at Clue HQ Kingston upon Thames

Every game lasts sixty minutes and is private to your group: you will never be put in with strangers.

End of the Line: a hijacked train, a runaway track and about sixty minutes of rail left. Find the manual override.

The Betrayal of Cluetankhamun: the first expedition into the tomb went quiet. Go in after the Cluetan Crystal, and find out what happened to them.

A-I-9: the peacekeeping intelligence that ran the country has started corrupting itself from the inside. Shut it down before it shuts everything else down.

The Dungeon of Doom: a friend is chained up in a medieval dungeon waiting to be executed. Break in, get them out, and be gone before the guard comes back.

Bunker 38: you have lived underground since the radiation leak. The all clear has come through, the door is locked and the air is running out. A good first room.

The Experiments: a laboratory that got a long way past the point where anyone should have stopped it.

Which one should you book first?

If it is your first escape room, pick whichever story you like the sound of. They are all built to be finished by a team that talks to each other, and your games host is watching and will nudge you if you get stuck.

If you have done a few before, ask us on the day which is currently the hardest. We know, and we will tell you.

How many people, and what it costs

Four to six is the sweet spot. Two people can do it and it is a good date, but you will work harder. Above six, people start watching rather than playing, so larger groups are better split across rooms at the same time.

Prices are per group rather than per person: £58 for a pair, £96 for four and £137 for eight, so a full team works out around £17 each.

Getting here and parking

We are on the first floor at 402 Hook Rise North in Surbiton, above Toolstation and beside the Shell garage on the Hook roundabout, just off the A3.

There are seven free spaces at the front of the building, first come first served.

Worth knowing

Six rooms under one roof, which is the most of any Clue HQ, plus a party room you can book free for half an hour after your game. Blue Light and student discounts are available.

We are advance booking only, so check the live calendar rather than turning up. Arrive about ten minutes before your slot: the clock starts on time, and a late arrival is a shorter game.
