Five things to do in Somerton and mid Somerset

Making a day of it in Somerton? Here is what we would do, starting with an hour with us and then the places we send people afterwards.

1. Clue HQ Somerton

We are just inside Somerton Business Park on Bancombe Road, with a large forecourt and free parking right outside the door. Three escape rooms, sixty minutes, private to your group, and easy to reach from the A303.

We would say that, of course. Everything below is what our games hosts actually recommend when people ask what else there is to do.

2. Somerton Market Square

The old heart of what was once the county town of Somerset: the market cross, the town hall, and the church of St Michael and All Angels with its rare octagonal tower and a carved timber roof worth going in for.

3. Glastonbury Tor

Twenty minutes away and visible for miles before you get there. A steep but short climb to the fifteenth century tower at the top, and a view over the Levels that explains why people have been walking up it for a thousand years.

4. Lytes Cary Manor

A medieval manor house with an Arts and Crafts garden, about ten minutes from us and on the way to Glastonbury if you want to do both in a day. The chapel is older than the house.

5. Haynes Motor Museum

Near Sparkford, and far better than non-car people expect: several hundred vehicles from veterans to supercars, including the Red Room of nothing but red cars. Good for a group that cannot agree on anything else.

Before you go

Opening times, prices and menus change, so check with each place before you travel, especially out of season. Our own games are advance booking only, so book your slot first and build the rest of the day around it.
