The best escape rooms in Birmingham

What is actually in Birmingham, which room to pick first, what it costs and how to get here. Written by the team who run the games.

The 4 rooms at Clue HQ Birmingham

Every game lasts sixty minutes and is private to your group: you will never be put in with strangers.

The Legend of Miyalock: an expedition has woken the dragon Malaki. Find Miya’s wand, learn her magic and claim the treasure.

The Hellevator: a game show with a nasty streak. Survive the trials and make it to Floor 13.

The Betrayal of Cluetankhamun: the first expedition into the tomb went quiet. Go in after the Cluetan Crystal, and find out what happened to them.

Captain Riddle’s Forgotten Fortune: take the notorious pirate’s ship and chart a course to the cove where he hid his gold.

Which one should you book first?

If it is your first escape room, pick whichever story you like the sound of. They are all built to be finished by a team that talks to each other, and your games host is watching and will nudge you if you get stuck.

If you have done a few before, ask us on the day which is currently the hardest. We know, and we will tell you.

How many people, and what it costs

Four to six is the sweet spot. Two people can do it and it is a good date, but you will work harder. Above six, people start watching rather than playing, so larger groups are better split across rooms at the same time.

Prices run from £33 per person for a pair down to £25 per person once you are five or more, so the bigger your group, the cheaper it gets per head.

Getting here and parking

We are in the arches on Lionel Street, downhill from the BT Tower. St Chads tram stop is directly above us and Snow Hill station is a five minute walk, so most people arrive without a car.

There is limited pay and display parking on Lionel Street, free after 6pm and on Sundays. The nearest car parks are Hospital Street (B19 3PY) and Henrietta Street.

Worth knowing

We are a few minutes from the Jewellery Quarter and Colmore Row, so it works either side of a meal or drinks in town. The Portal, our new escape arena for up to 35 players, is in the same arches.

We are advance booking only, so check the live calendar rather than turning up. Arrive about ten minutes before your slot: the clock starts on time, and a late arrival is a shorter game.
