Rainy day ideas in Birmingham for families

The forecast has ruined the plan. Here is what to do indoors in Birmingham with children who were promised a day out.

Indoors, and not a screen

The problem with a wet day is that the easy options are all screens. An escape room is an hour indoors where nobody is on a phone, which on a rainy Saturday is worth more than it sounds.

We are entirely indoors, warm, and the weather makes no difference to the game.

Short notice is fine

Rainy days are decided at nine in the morning. Weekday slots are usually available the same day, and you can book online in a couple of minutes. Weekends are tighter, so check before you promise anything.

Ages and expectations

From 8 upwards, with an adult in the room for under 13s. Under 10s will find some puzzles hard, which is fine as long as an adult on the team is doing some of the reading. Nobody minds if you ask for clues - teams who use them have more fun.

What is nearby when you come out

Five minutes from Snow Hill Station, and a short walk from the Bullring, the Jewellery Quarter and the canals at Brindleyplace if the rain gives up. Plenty of places to eat within a few streets, so you are not committing to a whole day outdoors.
