1. Clue HQ Birmingham
We are in the arches on Lionel Street, under the railway bridge with St Chads tram stop directly above us. Four escape rooms plus The Portal, our escape arena for up to 35 players. Sixty minutes, private to your group, and about five minutes from everything else on this list.
We would say that, of course. Everything below is what our games hosts actually recommend when people ask what else there is to do.
2. The Jewellery Quarter
A short walk from us and the most characterful part of the city: over two hundred years of jewellery making, still-working workshops, independent shops and St Paul’s Square, the last Georgian square in Birmingham. The Museum of the Jewellery Quarter runs guided tours of a workshop left exactly as it was when the family locked the door in 1981.
3. The canals at Brindleyplace
Birmingham has more miles of canal than Venice, and the towpaths are the quietest way to cross the city. Walk from Gas Street Basin to Brindleyplace for bars and restaurants on the water, or keep going out towards the Jewellery Quarter and loop back to us.
4. The Library of Birmingham
Worth going in even if you never open a book. Take the lift to the Secret Garden on the seventh floor and the Shakespeare Memorial Room above it for one of the best free views in the city, out over Centenary Square.
5. Thinktank at Millennium Point
The science museum, and the one to pick if you have children who liked the escape room. Four floors, a planetarium and a science garden outside, with the Spitfire and the oldest working steam engine in the world among the things you can get close to.
Before you go
Opening times, prices and menus change, so check with each place before you travel, especially out of season. Our own games are advance booking only, so book your slot first and build the rest of the day around it.
